The Boston Irish essays During the times of immigration to the United States conflicts arose between the Yankees and Catholic immigrants. These two cultures, which couldnt have been more different at that time, were separated as two classes on the political spectrum. Secret farming organizations like members of the Steelboys engaged in voyaging to North America. Rebellious countrymen such as these would later tend to be the ones who would start later uprisings against the Yankee Americans. Much like members of gangs today these, organizations would resort to violence, muggings, and other things of that nature for simply a rise out of society or a radical political view. Along with the other Irish immigrants making their way across the Atlantic, Wild Geese also were among. These Wild Geese were remnants of Irish nobility and surviving rebels that offered their services to the courts of Englands enemies in France, Austria, and Spain. After nearly a century, the descendants of these Wild Geese would later become involved in liberation acts in Latin American countries. Many of the other immigrants that made their way over to the US came because of the intensely poor conditions most of which were from Western Ireland. The majority of these immigrants would stay with their relatives or friends that had already settled into Boston. In the war of 1812, numbers in the armed forces were severely decimated. To compensate for the losses volunteer militias were setup to hopefully strengthen a basic line of defense for self-protective reasons. In return for serving the basic militia duties, the soldiers were given new and brilliant uniforms and with these uniforms they were allowed to attend certain balls and social activities that they previously would not have been allowed to attend.
